PLM solution, SmarTeam

English
Czech car manufacturer, Škoda Auto a.s., approached us looking for a way to improve their interdepartmental communications and data sharing. Due to the importance and voluminous nature of the data, it was important for stakeholders to have all relevant information they needed, including product & project documentation, readily available and up to date. We felt a customized version of ENOVIA’s SmarTeam PLM software was perfect for Skoda’s needs.

Considering the scope of the project, we agreed it was best to make a small scale solution and roll it out to one specific team, then analyze, gather feedback, and make necessary changes. The pilot project was launched within the prototyping and modeling department, who saw a perfect opportunity to use the software to input and store important component/part data and better facilitate the transferring of that information with the express purpose of ordering and construction.

Expanding to other departments

The pilot project lasted less than two years, after which, it was decided that due to the increase in new models, and subsequent need for rapid prototyping, that SmarTeam would be gradually added to other involved departments within the production chain, with the aim of optimizing the cooperation between those parties.

Current state of the PLM solution

Currently, around 300 individuals, in the main plant in Mladá Boleslav and in branch offices in Vrchlabí and Kvasiny, are utilizing the PLM solution. The functionality of the software includes, but is not limited to, project management, document access, customized warehouse management, order management, delivery updates, and archival of completed projects.

The SmarTeam application is also linked to other systems being utilized within ŠKODA, such as the EBP ERP system, the MS Project-driven synchronization, or the Production Management System, where users can view PLMs, manage data, and synchronize information, in these applications via a defined and co-developed GUI.

In addition, we’re continually adding new functionality to the platform, including the implementation of QR codes into warehouse management, which should significantly accelerate and streamline the logistical processes and allow users to get more detailed and up-to-date information about the status of individual parts.
